A boil, also known as a furuncle, is a type of skin infection that occurs when a hair follicle becomes clogged with oil, dead skin cells, and bacteria. The infection causes a red, painful, and pus-filled lump to form on the skin, often accompanied by swelling, redness, and a yellow or white head.
